WORLD WAR 1 COMIC
The comic book project exclusively involved my world history class. In this class I was first introduced to 20th Century Conflicts based off of the Major wars America has been involved with. As a class we reviewed each war, focusing on how they were started, why we got involved, how it affected multiple countries, and how it lead to the next war. We then started project work, I was assigned to a group of three and World War 1 to focus on. What my group and I had to do was create a comic explaining the basics of the war we were given; these comics were required to be accurate and appealing to its reader.
My biggest struggle was taking all the interesting information about World War 1 and trying to communicate everything that happened in the time we were given and the amount of pages we could fit in within that time range. What my group and I did to assure that we hit all the information crucial to the explanation of the war was creating a list of the major events. We then made pages for those topics and used minor events to either start or close a major. This process was our way to effectively explain the war and not get held up explaining unnecessary details. This strategy guided us to create pages that we full, informational, and entertaining.
Below I have an overall view of my final piece mainly incorporating the visuals of images to support my text. After this project I truly felt that I had a better grasp of World War 1 and if I could do this for every war I would because of how I learn a lot about the subject when finding a way to present and connect to visuals. But now that I know this information and I feel comfortable discussing about it I think that I might just be able to do so with my peers in upcoming school projects.
I grew most in Communication during the World War One comic book project. Communication is expressing an understandable message to another individual. I think that this DRSS quality is the best representative because I had to stretch my ability to make the connections between content and visuals. For example the first page I created was concentrated on Lusitania, my short passage was describing the amount of deaths of Americans aboard. I had to find an image that best represented that information and could make sense without that informational support. I researched the result of the Lusitania and during this search discovered an ‘act now’ poster supporting that the US take precipitation in World War One. This painting was of a dead American women still cradling her child in her motionless arms peacefully resting bottom of sea as shown below. I chose it to not only provide an insight of the result of the ship sinking but also to represent the vile impact the event had on American citizens. This was not the only picture I had to search for that contained a strong relation to other segments in the page. Overall the end result consisted of having to communicate to the readers through pictures and few words to tell a story that makes up the history of a country.
