KINAMEDOSCOPE
Kinamedoscope is a picture made up with your name in mirror symmetry and added color to give it an illusion of abstract art. We learned how to use multiple tools to create this colorful high quality work including rulers, mirrors, and tracing paper. We also made many drafts and revised each draft to get the result we want, starting out with just different ways to write our name, then putting it together in one page reflected on every section correctly. After that we combined different color templates and chose our favorite one to go in to our final draft. During this project we have learned and practiced multiple forms of symmetry. Reflection symmetry is an image has that has at least one line which splits the image in half (Lines of symmetry) so that one side is the mirror image of the other. Rotation symmetry is where there is a point in the image that can be turned around a certain number of degrees and still look the same. Another form of symmetry is translation which is where you have an object and to move it without rotating or reflecting it. Every translation has a direction and a distance. After practicing translation we began to work on a second mini project. First we received a small rectangular piece of card board then we were instructed to cut out a shape and tape it to the opposite side of the rectangular piece, we had to make at least three of these cuts. When we finished the first instruction we were given our second which was to draw an image on the card board, after many drawings and drafts I came up with one that I loved! Now it was time to construct our final page. What I had to do was taking my piece of card board and trace the outlining of it on a piece of paper. Once I moved it either up, down, left or right the next outlining fit the original like a puzzle piece. At last all that was left to do was draw my image into each outline. What was left was my final image which is shown on this page. The main problem I had constantly during this project was creating everything without any flaws because one thing incorrect makes the whole picture incorrect, I overcome this by slowing down and thinking what am I doing and what step will I do next. I used the D.R.S.S. quality creativity. I choose this one because you have to discover a new way to modify your name and that piece of card board to allow the whole picture to become something unique and yet math mathematically correct. I can find this whole lesson to help me greatly in the future. Whether it is helping me understand how reflection symmetry supports a building, or rotation symmetry of a Ferris wheel that allows it to drop off and pick up people at the perfect time without harm or how translation symmetry is found in many buildings or even art work. I enjoyed this project very much and had a great time creating something that was both knowledgeable and self expressive.
